Block heater = BIG SMOKE?

My wife mistakenly plugged in the block heater to the 3126 CAT. I was in the shed where the 12 gauge extension cord was plugged in and heard BZZZZ BZZZZ before the 15 amp breaker tripped. When I looked out at the motorhome it was almost enveloped with white smoke, (coming from the motor compartment). By the time I got her out of the motorhome and crawled under the motor to see if I could see anything (elapsed time 3-4 minutes), the smoke had disipated and I could not tell what had happened. The cord to the heater didn't appear to be damaged in any way. The heater was warm to the touch. The jacks weren't down and the tires were on dry gravel, so the only grounding path should have been through the power cord. The heater was the only item plugged in from shore power cord. The smoke had more of an oil smell rather than anything electrical. All the systems that I have checked have been OK, 12v, 120v. What the heck do you think happened? dreamer.

RE: Interesting Statement from Caterpillar Service

pfunk, Yes,you can set fast idle speed with your cruise contol. I use this if I am going to be idling for more than a minute or so (1000 rpm). Good luck. dreamer.

Pat, We also have a 2000 Endeavor and have been very happy with it. Like ole trucker, we bought ours in 2003 and have had minimal problems with it. Good luck with yours, I think you'll like it. dreamer.

How do I designate a web site as a trusted site?

Hello, How do I designate a web site as a trusted site? I have been having trouble accessing some web sites, this one included, but have no trouble getting to my secure sites such as bank accts etc with the little padlock on the bottom. I am running IE on an ATT air card. Thanks.

RE: Horseshoe Lake State Park Illinois ? Opinions

My suggestion would be to not stay at Horseshoe. Go on down the road a few miles and stay at the Casino Queen . You will be safe there. Then you can hop on the Metrolink and visit the Arch. Good luck. dreamer.

RE: Are there less RV's in the parks?

We went for father's day weekend at a local state park and it was at 50% capacity. Last year, same weekend it was full. Illinois has also raised their campground rates this year over last year, so that may have added to the reduction. dreamer.

RE: Will there be mobile rvs in ten years?

Sea Dog, For most folks there is a tipping point where this activity of rving can't continue. For some it has already been reached, for others it could be on the horizon. Alot of us are "whistling past the graveyard", with one eye on the fuel prices. I imagine we'll look back at $4 fuel as the good ol' days. Good luck. dreamer.
